Your friend may be one of those people who just happened to win the genetic lottery, but it's more likely that they live a life that leads them to stay thin. They may not be someone who is on their feet a lot or subsisting on kale and veggie smoothies, but they probably have habits that help them stay thin. These habits require little to no lifestyle change and can end up helping your wallet as much as your passport.

Never eat just to eat

How many times have you continued to eat after you were no longer hungry ? Chances are you've done it repeatedly. Maybe you felt the need to clear your plate to be polite to your host, or you may hate the idea of ​​wasting food. You may also have had that extra portion of pasta or extra cookie just because it tasted too good to pass up. Eating just to eat is a terrible habit to get into if you're trying to stay thin. Your body will tell you when you have eaten enough to keep it satisfied and functioning. Continuing to eat afterwards tends to send those calories straight to your waistline.

Cook your own meals

Some people enjoy cooking and find it very relaxing. Others don't like chopping awkward pieces of garlic or trying to untangle clumps of herbs. Whether you find it relaxing or aneurysm-inducing, cooking for yourself is a good way to shed pounds while staying on a diet. When you eat takeout or in a restaurant, you have no idea what's actually in your food. How much oil did they use ? How much butter ? Did they use heavy cream or evaporated milk to make the sauce?

Focus on fiber and protein

Your diet should be full of fruits and vegetables if you want to stay slim naturally. The rest of what you eat should be high in protein or fiber. Both fiber and protein are known to keep you fuller for longer. This means that if you fill up on protein and vegetables, you won't want to eat for a noticeably longer period of time than if you ate a meal made up mostly of carbohydrates. Eggs, nuts, fish and yogurt are high in protein. Foods high in fiber include beans, lentils, blackberries, peas, sweet potatoes, and coconuts.

Don't eat in front of the TV

When you eat in front of the TV, what do you usually put on your plate ? Chances are the answer is something like pizza, popcorn, or pasta.
