What causes Dust Allergy ? How to prevent dust allergy ?

The number of people suffering from dust allergy is increasing along with the air pollution. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Professor of Respiratory Medicine Department said in detail about dust allergy. Mohammad Atiqur Rahman.
 

Dr. Atiqur Rahman said that dust, sand, various smoke, chemicals, viruses and bacteria are present in the air. Many people have allergic reactions when these dusts come in contact with our nostrils or eyes. At first there is a slight reaction, then when the dust comes in contact with the nose or eyes again, the allergic reaction is more.

             In winter, especially during the change of season, the air is much drier, the amount of dust in the air increases, pollen molecules, various viruses, bacteria float in the air. They are not always visible to the naked eye. Due to which the level of dust allergy also increases during this time compared to other times.


Symptoms of Dust Allergy

Allergies caused by dust have several symptoms. For example-

1. Many people have a constant runny nose due to dust allergy. At first it is less, then it gradually increases.

2. Constant sneezing.

3. Some have cold, cough.

4. Some have chest tightness.

5. If the dust comes down the airways, many people may have asthma.

6. Many people have shortness of breath.

7. If the dust comes in contact with the eyes, the eyes may become itchy, red, watery, and may cause conjunctivitis.

8. Skin contact can cause itching, rash and various skin diseases.

9. If chemicals are mixed with dust, chemical reactions can occur in the body.

10. Fungi, viruses, bacteria mix with dust. There is a danger of various diseases due to the germs of various diseases mixed in the dust. For example, if there is a germ of tuberculosis, it can become tuberculosis, it can become a viral disease.

Dr. Atiqur Rahman said, more or less many people have allergy problems. However, allergy problems are hereditary for some. If someone has a history of allergies in the family, they are at a higher risk of developing allergies.


Prevention of dust allergy

Dr. said to treat those who have high levels of allergies with different drugs. Atiqur Rahman. But allergy problems are never completely cured. So prevention of allergies is the best way. Allergies can be prevented if certain things are followed. For example-

1. A mask must be used when coming in contact with dust for various reasons including sweeping the house.

2. Mask should always be used when going outside the house.

3. Dust should be avoided as much as possible.

4. Come from outside and wash your face, hands and feet with water. Always keep yourself clean.

5. Daily used clothes should be washed regularly if they are dirty.

6. Pillows used daily, mosquito nets should be placed in the sun occasionally.

7. Bed sheets, pillow covers, mosquito nets should be washed if they are dirty.

8. The house should be kept clean regularly, care should be taken that dust does not accumulate on the furniture.

9. Influenza and pneumonia vaccine should be taken. They do not have a direct effect on reducing allergies. But it increases immunity in the body.

10. Eat balanced and nutritious food.

11. Get enough sleep.

12. Smoking and alcohol should be avoided.

13. Children and elderly people, those with comorbidities, asthma problems and those with high levels of allergic reactions in the body should go outside less, avoid crowds. Must wear mask when going outside.


Dust allergy treatment

Dr. Atiqur Rahman said, the cause and what is the allergy and the degree of allergy should be determined through experiments. The patient should be treated accordingly after identifying the problem.
  • Sneeze, cold, cough, shortness of breath from the nostrils should be consulted by a chest specialist. If the skin is itchy, skin disease should go to the dermatologist. And if the eyes are red, itchy, watery, conjunctivitis, you should go to the eye doctor.
  • Those who have dust allergy can take anti histamine medicine as needed.
  • Those who have high levels of allergy, continuous runny nose, a lot of cough, they can use steroid nasal spray inside the nose.
  • If someone has chest tightness, asthma problem, you can take different inhalers.
  • If the amount of allergy is high, this doctor also advises to take worm medicine.
  • Injections are also given to the patients if necessary for excessive allergies. However, allergy medicine must be taken with the doctor's advice.
People with respiratory problems, asthma, physically weak, low immune system, diabetics, undergoing cancer treatment, comorbidities, very old people, very young children are at high risk of dust allergy. So doctor advises them to always follow more precautions and preventive measures. Atiqur Rahman.
